Intergenerational travel, where to travel with grandchildren
Charles Richer
The grandparents/grandchildren relationship has evolved over the generations … Nowadays, grandparents are active, healthier and more open to adventure and travel. In addition, a large majority of grandparents feel that spending time with their grandchildren keeps them alert and helps them feel younger. And it’s a great opportunity to give their parents a break as they certainly need to be alone once in a while. Another factor that favors this trend is that families are often more geographically dispersed than in the past.
They see themselves less often and every opportunity to meet becomes a precious moment for them. So, more and more grandparents invite their grandchildren on a trip with them, a great way to get closer and create lasting memories to cherish. On the other hand, it is very important to be well prepared and to choose your destination according to the children’s age. For example, for children between 8 and 12 years old, it is suggested to recommend more natural destinations, where they will be amazed by the diversity of the flora and fauna of another country such as Costa Rica, Mexico or the southern islands for example. Privileged destinations with short flights and a striking culture will be sure to win! In addition, young teens aged 12 and over will be better able to discover cities rich in history and culture such as Paris, Rome or London. And for older teens who can take longer flights, destinations like Africa, Australia or Asia, where they can go on a safari or explore caves for example, are good choices.
There are also some cruise lines that have adapted to this new reality by offering menus designed for all members of the family as well as a variety of activities that will appeal to children and adults alike.
